Letter Writing
Letter Writing is designed to prepare both the letter writer and the participant for the relationship which will begin once they start corresponding with one another.
Letter writing is part of the process of learning valuable insight into the needs of the participant. Participants are “matched” with a letter writer of the same gender while they are incarcerated. Through the building of this relationship, the letter writer will be able to encourage and pray for the participant as well as learn valuable insight concerning the needs of the participant prior to their release.
Nothing is more important to an inmate nor generates more enthusiasm than receiving mail. Mail, in prison, is one of the greatest gifts you can give an inmate. It is also a very effective way to get to know your participant and for the participant to begin to feel valued as a person.
Writing to an inmate is no different than writing to any other friend or loved one.
